The Best Desserts: Flavourtown Bakery (London)

Flavourtown is one of my favourite bakeries in London, so I thought it was time I shared with you the most delicious items (i.e. everything I've eaten so far!).

This little gem is located on Fulham Road (near Parsons Green). I spent many a lockdown weekend walking the 30 minutes across the river from Putney to pick up something delicious and comforting. I had been to the bakery once before, however the pandemic and lockdowns stopped me travelling all over London and I turned to the businesses within walking distance to get my sugar fix.

Their bakes are truly amazing and deserving of a visit, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The experience begins the moment you walk in the shop, lusting over all the cakes on the counter, and the bright, fresh decor is uplifting and creates a fun environment to shop in. The experience continues on the way home, carrying that bright pink box, eager with anticipation, then opening it up and unveiling the true delight(s) inside.

Read on to discover my Flavourtown check list. I've tried to organise by those regularly on the menu and those which were weekend specials. All information is correct as per my understanding but do contact the bakery directly if you have any questions.

ON THE MENU

Bad Ass Brownie Cupcake

Part Valrhona chocolate brownie sponge, part cheesecake, rich in chocolate and a bit tangy. I love how it looks with the two tone design and tiny gold brownie on top. IMO this is one of my favourite cupcakes and a must-try.

Salted Caramel Brownie

And this is my favourite Flavourtown brownie. It's so rich, that salted caramel is to die for! On a hot day the caramel will ooze out, making the experience even more decadent (or messy, depends on your preferences).

Mars Bar Brownie

This stacked beauty is composed of a thick, rich chocolate brownie, topped with a layer of caramel, then a layer of homemade soft chocolate nougat, and finally, a layer of Belgian chocolate. It is way better than a Mars Bar (and again quite messy if it's warm weather).

Red Velvet Cupcake

A red velvet cupcake is the staple of any good cake shop. This one is cute as a button with it's deep red buttermilk sponge body, soft cream cheese frosting and tiny heart decoration. The sponge is perfect and that cream cheese is so smooth and indulgent. Simple yet effective.

Black Velvet Cupcake

This is my favourite cupcake second to the Bad Ass Brownie. It is everything I want a chocolate cupcake to be: deep, rich, topped with sweet chocolate icing and sprinkles and glitter. The icing to cake ratio is just right, almost equal parts. The sponge really makes it for me though, that depth of flavour is sensational. Trust me.

Oreo vs Nutella Cupcake

There's no need to choose between Oreo or Nutella with this cupcake. The sponge is Oreo crumble with a hidden Nutella surprise in the middle, and the topping is a Nutella mousse frosting trimmed with hazelnut praline. Extra Oreos decorate top. The two flavours compliment one another, giving a kind of nutty cookie vibe.

Ferrero Posher Cupcake

If you want to feel special choose this blinging cupcake. Tasting as good as it looks, the sponge is nutty chocolate filled with Nutella, topped with Nutella frosting, rolled in caramelised hazelnut praline, dipped in Belgian chocolate and sprayed gold. Visually it always makes me think it could be a giant, edible cocktail ring.

Kinder Bueno Cupcake

If you like a Kinder Bueno this one is for you. A big scoop of Bueno icing sits upon the chocolate sponge, which has a hidden liquid Bueno center. The gold Bueno adds extra pzazz, because why not?

Vegan Chocolate Birthday Cake

This was the first thing I ate at Flavourtown. I was instantly drawn to three tiers of dark chocolate goodness. The sponge is dense and rich, the buttercream is sweet. I liked the sprinkles, made me feel like it was my birthday (it wasn't). This visit was a couple of years ago so the current version may look a little different, however I checked and vegan chocolate birthday cake remains on the menu.

Chocolate Salted Caramel Truffle Cake

Here we have four layers of black velvet chocolate chip sponge, filled with home-made salted caramel sauce, frosted with Belgian chocolate buttercream, and decorated with chocolate drip and a hand rolled truffle. What's not to love?! (Secret fact: I had to eat this in two sittings).

Red Velvet Cookie

Two red velvet cookies sandwich together a large amount of delicious cream cheese frosting. I love cream cheese frosting so really loved this. A word of warning, it was pretty messy to eat as the frosting oozes out everywhere.

SPECIALS

Gingerbread Latte Cupcake

Come Christmas, the specials turn festive! I don't think you can get more festive than ginger sponge filled with whipped cream, topped with mocha latte frosting, endless festive sprinkles, more mocha frosting and a tiny gingerbread man. All the Christmas feels right here. I ate this whilst watching Arthur Christmas.

Vegan Gingerbread Cupcake

Another ginger cupcake special, this time with a Biscoff center, topped with snowball-like icing, snowflake sprinkles, glitter and a tiny gingerbread man. So spicy and warming, I loved it, and the gingie man looks so happy on his sugary snowball.

Creme Egg Cupcake

I love creme eggs and I love cupcakes... put them together and this is what you get, deliciousness!

Mississippi Mud Pie

I've never had an actual mud pie but I used to eat those Mississippi mud pie Müller corners as I kid so I knew it would be up my street. Accordingly, I had to try this cupcake, which was made up of a chocolate sponge with a creamy surprise center and a mini mud pie on top. Plus all those chocolate sprinkles :)

Have I made you hungry yet?

You can try these treats (and many other flavours which I've not yet had a chance to try) by visiting their Fulham and Richmond stores, or buying online if you live in London. See their website for more information.

If you have a favourite Flavourtown treat let me know in the comments below or get in touch via Instagram, I'd love to hear from you!
